Two funeral homes you know and trust have now come together to better serve families on the Gold Coast. Somerville Funerals and Metropolitan Funerals in Southport combined in late 2017 to create one funeral home: Somerville Funerals.
This partnership has given Gold Coast families a refurbished and improved funeral home with state of the art facilities, giving families a welcoming place to celebrate the lives and values of their loved ones. We are proud to serve the residents of Surfers paradise, Bundall, Ashmore, Labrador, Molendinar, Parkwood and other surrounding suburbs.
Our compassionate funeral directors can help you arrange a memorable funeral to celebrate and honour your loved one’s life. We will work closely with you during the days following their passing, providing gentle guidance when you need it most.
Somerville Funerals can help arrange any type of funeral. For example, you may want to hold the funeral service for your loved one at:
Following the ceremony, your loved one can be buried or memorialised within the grounds of Allambe Memorial Park which is a 20-minute drive away from our funeral home. Southport Lawn Cemetery and Southport General are both less than 10 minutes away.
The Southport funeral home was renovated in 2017 and it is a bright and welcoming space for families to gather and arrange a funeral.
The facilities include:
There is parking available for 7 cars at the funeral home car park with additional parking available on surrounding streets such as Nind and Davenport streets. There is also a council car park 120 metres away. Our funeral home is accessible for visitors in wheelchairs and with other mobility aids.
The team at Somerville Funerals in Southport are with you every step of the way, keeping you informed and guiding you through the arrangements as much or as little as you need.
Meet Chris Walters, Somerville Funerals Southport location manager
What do you enjoy about your job?
I have never thought of what I do as a job, I have worked in the industry since I was 20 and still have the same passion today that I did back then. The satisfaction of being able to help and care for a family through the toughest time of their life is what has kept me in the profession today.
How long have you been a location manager?
I have worked for InvoCare for the past 28 years. I was the General manager of our business in Canberra and worked closely with families every day. 8 years ago I moved to Queensland to be closer to my family and have had roles from Regional to Area Manager within the business but my heart has always been working closely with families.
In August the opportunity to manage the Somerville Funeral business was offered to me and I had no hesitation to take the position as Location manager at Southport.
What do you enjoy in your spare time?
Spending time with my family especially my grandchildren, following their sports netball & football.
My family have always been the most important part of my life, I have seen the tragedy that loss causes and how tomorrow can be taken away so quickly with death.
Are there any special community groups you work with or support?
I have worked with many community groups over the years. Sands ,Share the Dignity, Red Cross, St Vincent de Paul, SIDS, Meals on Wheels, Cancer support groups, Football, Bowls & Golf Clubs to name a few.
Whilst I have only been in the position for a short period, I intend to reconnect with these and many other community groups to offer support when & where required.
I am proud of the support and work we do with many community groups here on the Gold Coast and I look forward to continuing that work.
