The outgoing president of the Rotary Club of Southport announced the winner of the Paul Harris Fellowship award at their changeover dinner, held recently at the Southport Yacht Club.
Jenny Crewes Location Manager at Somerville, Southport was excited to hear the announcement that her sister, Maggie Crewes, had won the award for her missionary work in Ethiopia.
The Rotary Club of Southport had supported Maggie for some years now, and while the Paul Harris Fellowship is most often given to a club member for extraordinary service to the club (“service above self” is the Rotary motto), occasionally it is given to a member of the community for the service and work they provide to their own community.
Her mother accepted the award and gave a lovely speech on behalf of Maggie who was overseas at the time.
The club then awarded a second Paul Harris Fellowship to a very surprised Jenny Crewes. “I was in such a state of shock that I could barely get a word out. They had kept it such a closely guarded secret, I literally had no idea they were going to do this – I had just been excited about my sister and thrilled for her to be nominated” says Jenny.
On behalf of Somerville Funerals, congratulations go to the Crewes sisters. Well done!
