Destiny Rescue jewellery party

Somerville Funerals, in partnership with Soroptimist International, Gold Coast recently hosted a jewellery party to raise money for the Destiny Rescue organisation.

Destiny Rescue is a not-for-profit organisation working to free young women and girls from sexual slavery and trafficking. Once rescued, the girls are helped to re-build their lives and one of the projects teaches the girls to make jewellery, some of which was on sale at the party. The guest speaker at the event was Mia Munro, an ambassador for Destiny Rescue, who spoke about her involvement with the organisation and showed the 30 or so guests a short video.

Mia’s talk highlighted the fact that every 26 seconds, a child is trafficked. The jewellery sold at the events is one of the ways DestinyRescue is able to provide the girls in their care with a means of income.

The jewellery pieces ranged between $8-$25 with many guests purchasing them as gifts. The event was a great success with nearly $800 worth of jewellery sold. The funds raised will be used to continue the great work being carried out by Destiny Rescue.

Somerville Funerals eagerly looks forward to working with Soroptimist International again in the near future to support worthwhile charities like Destiny Rescue.
